The thrill of leaving your office job and not having someone telling you what to do is intoxicating.
But…
Are you just leaving to create your own job? Or are you leaving to create a business?
There is a major difference.
If your new “own boss” scenario requires that you be responsible to customers, show up every day, work set opening hours, then… The customer is now your boss! And they will fire you without telling you.
How do you solve this?
Become an entrepreneur.
What’s the difference?
Let’s take an example. You are leaving your 9-5 because you are passionate about coffee. You’re finally opening that coffee shop you have dreamed of.
The “Be your own boss” scenario:
- You open a gorgeous shop.
- You make coffee your unique way.
- Your vintage cash register is a major talking point.
- You serve boutique cupcakes from the owner run store 2 doors down.
Now:
- You personally have to cash up.
- Your vibe is attached to the bakery.
- You have to make every cup yourself.
- Your open hours are set by your lease.
- You’re stuck in one location for 5 years.
You now have a job.
The “Entrepreneur” scenario:
- You take payments electronically only.
- You use an automated barista machine.
- You supply cupcakes from a dark kitchen.
- Your “store” is trailers outside events and offices.
You now have a business.
- Your supply chain is solid.
- Your staff training is minimal.
- You can create more stores in days.
- And you don’t even have to be there.
Create a business. Not a job.
